Local EFY Sessions Planned for Summer 2011

Following is information from the Stake YW President on a new EFY option that will come to Portland next summer:

There are three separate sessions that the youth can sign up for. If there is an overflow, a fourth session will be added. The session dates are July 11-15, July 18-22 and August 8-12. The youth can simply choose which session works best with their summer schedule.
This is the exact same program that they would have if they were to choose an out-of-town session. There are family groups, ccounselors, games, dances, classes, outdoor activities, musical numbers, talent show, devotionals etc. The only difference is that instead of going to a dorm to sleep at night, they go home. The sessions are all day. Meals will be catered.
The sessions will be held at the Hillsboro Stake Center or the 209th building (depending on which session they sign up for). These buildings were selected because of their size and because they have substantial outdoor areas that will be used. They were selected by the EFY director.
The cost of EFY at Home is $150 (compared to $450 for the out of town sessions). This is a substantial savings for a fabulous youth event.
Registration will be done online the same way that it is done for the other EFY sessions. Regsitration begins February 2, 2011. Registration will be open to the youth of our multi-stake group only for the first 2 weeks, then to anyone.
Lastly, we are looking for host families for the youth in the Rainier and Forest Grove Stakes who would like to attend. It is a considerable distance for those youth to travel each way. If you are interested please let Reenie Fisher know.

Personal Progress note

YW, Here are a couple of reminders from Sis. Cluff about Personal Progress:

1. If you participated in the 40-day ward fast with your family, you have completed Integrity Experience #6.
2. If you have conducted in RS--two different songs--that you know the words to, you are almost done with Knowledge Experience #6.

Make sure to record these so you remember they are completed!

Go Hailey!

Congratulations to Hailey on completing her first cross-country season at Sunset! She ran a personal best of just over 22 minutes (for a 5K--that's 3.1 miles) at the district meet last week!

YW Cookie Fundraiser

YW at the Temple - September 2010

The temple is the house of the Lord. The basis for every temple ordinance and covenant—the heart of the plan of salvation—is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Every activity, every lesson, all we do in the Church, point to the Lord and His holy house. Our efforts to proclaim the gospel, perfect the Saints, and redeem the dead all lead to the temple. Each holy temple stands as a symbol of our membership in the Church, as a sign of our faith in life after death, and as a sacred step toward eternal glory for us and our families. ~Elder Russell M. Nelson

Volleyball Season!

Hello Sisters,

Sorry it has taken so long for volleyball to get going. Things are going to be a little different than first proposed. Instead of playing ward against ward we are going to make teams with whom ever shows up each week. This will provide the girls with an opportunity to get to know other girls from the different wards. We will be playing on Saturdays from 10-11:30am at the stake center. However, this Saturday, September 25th the gym is already scheduled, and the following week is General Conference, so we will be starting on Saturday October 9th at 10am. I thought about working on different skills for about 15-20 minutes them letting the girls play games for the rest of the time. I am open to suggestions if there is something else/different you want to see done. Also, I will send out weekly emails reminding the girls of volleyball but if you could also announce it at mutual each week that would be great!

Thank you for your patience as I get all this figured out. If you have any questions or concerns please call or email me.

I look forward to seeing the girls in a couple weeks.

Thanks,
Brianne Thacker

NOTES
For those who aren't aware, we are now meeting with the RS for opening exercises each week (except the 1st and 5th Sundays).  We are rotating responsibility for the music every other month.
Will the following girls please prepare a hymn to accompany during the month of AUGUST:
Laurel, Diana, Katherine, Grace & Sage.  Brittan, please plan to play the first Sunday in October.  We're trying to involve more YW in the music and we would like you all to have plenty of time to prepare.  You may choose any hymn you like.  The lesson topics are listed on the right side of the blog, if you want to tie into the topic, but it is your choice.  I have the simplified hymnbooks for anyone who needs them.  If you have questions or concerns, email me at fallnews@comcast.net or text me (cell # at top of blog).  Also, volunteers for piano & music conducting are welcome!  Please let me know if you would like the opportunity.  Thank you so much for sharing your talents.

Also, apologies to Madison for not singing Happy Birthday to you on Sunday!  We love you and hope you had a terrific birthday.

If anyone has photos to share from our Senior Recognition Night or other activities, I would love to include a few on the blog--so please email me!  fallnews@comcast.net.
